Metal and eye sockets don't mix

Ok, so while alot of this blog has been dedicated to our adventures overseas, it isn't called Confessions of a Travelling Clutz for nothing. I feel obliged to keep you informed of my mishaps as well as the scenery!

On Wednesday evening at work, I was in the kitchen, getting the breakfast wagon ready for the early shift in the morning. My boss was standing behind me, not really helping much, and because I didn't want to step backwards into him, I made a sharp move to my right... my head colliding with the metal cage that is used to transport deliveries to the kitchen. The sound of the crash was enough to cause my boss to swear, and I knew I had done some damage, but I was too embarrassed in front of my boss to let on what I had really done. I just continued working without looking up, acting like I had just nudged the cage with my shoulder.

I quickly felt around my eye socket, unsure of the damage, and it seemed ok. So I powered on and finished my shift. Once I got home, we went straight out to dinner with Tom and Alex to celebrate Tom's birthday before Alex went back to France. I had completely forgotten about my eye until bedtime when I was washing my face and I could feel the bruising around the socket.

By morning, there was definitely some bruising to my nose and the bones around my eye but no dark marks... yet. As the day wore on, people at work could start to notice a slightly darker eye. I am very lucky it did not progress to a black eye, but there was definite dark marks. It looked like I was really super sleep deprived, but only under my right eye.

So I'm sure you are thinking - gee what an idiot, why is she sharing this? It's what came next that makes the whole thing laughable. Thursday during the day, I was not feeling great, headache no doubt from the previous night. One of my beautiful students decided, while we were sitting in circle time, to give me a very energetic hug, which involved a couple of jumps before springing at me, thus her head collided with my nose - the exact spot where I was bruised from the night before!

I cannot believe my luck some days. When it comes to injuries, I seem to do a great job of multiple attacks on the same spot! The poor child involved immediately started crying, not because she had hurt her head, but because she had hurt me. I was seeing stars and I had heard quite a loud crack upon impact so of course I had tears in my eyes. The poor girl though she was in big trouble for hurting me so I had to swallow my tears and cuddle her until she felt better and explain that accidents happen, it's not her fault, she wasn't in trouble. Shortly after she was consolled, I ran to the kitchen for ice!

So all in all, I am still nursing a slightly bruised eye socket but headache is gone. Today however we are about to start our skiing holiday so who knows.... the rule of 3 might still yet come into play!
