Why am I starting a blog? Why now?
Well, as I sit here writing this, I am waiting with fear, excitement, trepidation and a whole bunch of other feelings for the next chapter of my life to start. This chapter involves a massive life change and the most amazing opportunity for me and my husband (Michael).
We are about to move to Germany. Yes, Germany. I have been offered a job teaching English in the most gorgeous kindergarten in Munich. I simply cannot wait to begin. Michael is currently looking for a job for himself but this whole idea of moving to Europe started as a way of giving him more work experience. My husband is an engineer and he is also very excited to be seeking new experiences in his field.
So why the waiting? I have the itchiest feet right now as I am stuck in limbo. Everything is so close I can almost taste it. I have a signed contract. I have started packing boxes to put into storage. I have started saying goodbye to half my shoe collection in preparation for our separation. We have been studying German for almost a year in preparation for this opportunity. But alas, we are waiting for that magic piece of paper - the VISA. I have been sponsored by my new company in Munich and I am dying to hear from the German Government with positive news!
As soon as we know that outcome, we will be booking plane tickets (one way!), renting an apartment and saying our farewells! I am starting my new job on August 1 so here's hoping that everything goes smoothly!
So, going back to the reason for my blog. With such a life changing move happening very shortly, I wanted a way to keep in touch with all my friends and family back home in Australia while we are away. Michael and I will be away for about two years we think, possibly longer and we have every intention of travelling lots while we are just a hop, skip and jump from the rest of Europe! Our travel wishlist is growing by the day and we can't wait to start exploring.
From past holiday journals, I have been told my explanations of experiences are worth sharing with the world, especially the ones involving accidents - of which I have many. Hence the title of my blog. I am accident prone at the best of times, but particularly so on holidays. I am sure that over the next 2+ years, I will not let anyone down. There will be tumbles, bruises, stuff ups and multiple mishaps - all of which I promise to report on - in the midst of my amazing travel recounts! I hope to also include photos of our experiences and/or accidents!
So, as I sign off for today, I promise that this is just the start of my adventure. Hopefully my next post will include more official news of my departure! Wish me luck!
